Disability-Related Parking Needs
Parking Services is committed to ensuring that students, faculty &staff, and community members with disability-related parking needs have a variety of accessible parking options. Official ADA accessible parking spaces are available throughout campus. See the Campus Parking Map as well as the Butler Interactive Map for parking options and locations for individuals with state- or university-issued ADA parking credentials.
Butler University Parking Regulations for ADA parking spaces:
ADA designated spaces are reserved for persons with vehicles displaying the correct authorization to park there and are designated tow-away zones. This restriction is enforced 24 hours a day, seven days a week and a violation of this policy could result in a ticket being issued.
State-issued ADA placards are valid for parking in ADA designated spaces on campus, however, faculty, staff, students or affiliates must also have a valid permit affixed to their vehicle as required by the Vehicle Registration and Parking Policy Section II, (A). To obtain a temporary University issued ADA permit, the person who registered the vehicle must present written documentation showing the operator is entitled to be issued an ADA permit to the Parking Services office.
A vehicle displaying a University ADA parking permit shall park in an ADA parking space. If there are no ADA parking spaces available, the permit will allow the driver to park in any space in lots designated as A, B, or C. There is no cost for the ADA permit. Parking in a metered space still requires payment.
Please review the information below for specific processes regarding ADA parking at Butler University.
The University issues ADA hangtags for temporary disability needs. These hangtags are obtained from the Parking Services office in person and are valid only on the Butler Campus. Proof of disability status will be required from a doctor or clinician that indicates the conditions requires ADA parking accommodation and the duration of the need. There is no cost for the hangtag.
Temporary ADA hangtags will be issued for a maximum of 6-months or one semester. Needs lasting longer than that will need to be accommodated through the Long-Term ADA Parking procedure which involves state-issued parking credentials.

If you have an ADA license plate, state disabled placard/hangtag, or an Indiana Disabled American Veterans license plate, you may park in ADA spaces on University property. You will need to be the owner of the ADA credentials (plate/placard/hangtag) and the driver of said vehicle to do so.
Students and employees are required to have a current year parking permit in addition to an ADA placard. Students who will be using the ADA credentials for overnight parking will need to work with the Parking Services office to ensure that their Butler Parking permit is the correct type for the area they are parking in. The most common example of this is a vehicle with an I permit would need to be upgraded in order to park in AV, B or T designated areas overnight.
The Office of Parking Services manages disability-related parking requests related to university designated ADA spaces only.
For any other disability-related parking needs, including but not limited to seeking a different type of parking permit or access to a sold out University parking permit, students should contact the Student Disability Services Office (SDS).
Students can establish eligibility for accommodations through SDS by submitting the appropriate written documentation to SDS and engaging in an individualized interview with SDS staff, during which reasonable accommodations will be determined. Support services do not include services/equipment of a personal nature. Students who wish to request accommodations must give written permission for SDS to inform professors and other relevant university personnel that they are a person with a documented disability. Students can initiate this process by completing an SDS Interest Form. Visit the SDS FAQs about Registration page to learn more about the SDS registration process.
If accommodations related to parking are approved through the SDS process, SDS staff will notify Parking Services directly.
