The Butler University Doctor of Medical Science program mission is to promote life-long learning of PAs, expand the understanding of medical knowledge, and develop leadership and business skills. Consistent with this mission, the Department of Medical Sciences provides several avenues for DMS students and non-DMS students to attain graduate certificates and the required skillset to impact the delivery of healthcare in meaningful ways.
Healthcare Practice and Administration Certificate
The Healthcare Practice and Administration Certificate provides students with a targeted approach to expanding their foundational medical knowledge and business skills without undertaking an entire degree. The 12-credit hour certificate includes business and leadership courses that help students build their management acumen to effectively make decisions and lead within their places of work.
Medical Science Certificate
The Medical Science Certificate program provides students a focused opportunity to expand their core medical knowledge in areas they choose and by promoting lifelong learning. The coursework will also include knowledge and application of evidence-based medicine. Any four of the nine medical science courses may be taken to earn the Medical Science Certificate.
PA Educator Certificate
The PA Educator Certificate is tailored to those individuals who would like to enhance their understanding of teaching and medical education for PAs. The first three modules of the PA Educator Certificate are modeled after components found within Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant Standards (section A-C). The final module focuses on innovation in PA programs. All modules are 3 credit hours for a total of 12 hours.
