Alternative Special Education–Mild Intervention Certificate Program Admission Information
Interested candidates must have their application materials submitted by the following dates to be considered for the cohort group beginning May 12, 2025.
Priority Deadline: April 4, 2025
Final Deadline: April 25, 2025
Application materials include:
- Butler Application
- Personal Statement that explains your interest in becoming a special educator (500-word max)
- Two Letters of Recommendation
- Official Transcripts or copies of official transcripts from all colleges and universities where candidates:
- Earned a degree
- Earned more than 15 credits (undergraduate and graduate)
- Completed any program prerequisite (regardless of number of credit hours)
- Completed courses for which candidates are applying for transfer credit
- Current Résumé that includes any experience working or volunteering in P-12 schools (number of years, grade levels, position descriptions), as well as experience working or volunteering with people who have exceptionalities.
Requirements
The State of Indiana sets the admission requirements for all Transition to Teaching/Alternative Pathway programs. To be admitted to our program, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- Hold baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution with an overall GPA of 3.00 higher on a 4.00 scale;
- Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution with an overall GPA of at least 2.50 on a 4.00 scale, and five years of professional experience;
- Hold both a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution and proof of passing state approved content area assessment in the subject area (Exceptional Learners, Mild Intervention, 5355)
Transcripts
Copies of official transcripts may be uploaded in the online application for application review only. Applicants who receive an offer of admission will be required at that time to submit official final transcripts issued directly from the institution(s) for verification prior to enrollment. TUITION ASSISTANCE
Our program offers two flexible tracks: a 21-credit hour track that can be completed in as little as 15 months and a 24-credit hour track designed for 24 months, with the option to finish sooner. Both tracks are eligible for I-SEAL funding, and the 24-credit track is eligible for a $10,000 scholarship for students who commit to teaching in Indiana for at least five years.
