Concerns About a Student

If you are concerned about an SDS student’s academic performance, absences, or behavioral presentation in class, you are encouraged to contact SDS for discussion.

Instructors and advisors are encouraged to refer students to SDS if any aspect of a student’s university experience is adversely affected by a disability. However, students with disabilities cannot be required to register with Student Disability Services. If your student is experiencing academic difficulty, and you suspect it may be due to an undiagnosed disability, you are encouraged to privately refer the student to SDS. Suggest to the student that it can be helpful to explore the possible reasons for the academic challenges with a professional staff member at SDS. It is inadvisable for professors to indicate to the student that they suspect the student has a specific disability. As with other aspects of college life, it is ultimately up to the student to contact SDS. Some students may choose to follow up on the referral; others may not.
