Meade LX2000 Telescope Operation

The portable Meade LX2000 telescope

Meade LX2000 GPS enabled telescope.

  1. Take the Box for standing with the Extension Cord and Telescope Transformer outdoors first.
  2. Carefully remove the Telescope from the storage room (point the finder scope away from the door jam).
  3. Pull the Telescope outdoors (don’t push it, it may tip over!) – Use the hand grips and stand to move it.
  4. Align the Telescope on the concrete seam-two legs against the step and one leg toward the campus (Eyepiece is toward the observatory at this point) .
  5. Level the Telescope with the BU Sign at the end of the campus-replacing with the stoplight at 38th Street at night-slightly tighten the altitude screw.
  6. Turn azimuth 180 degrees, ie. If it starts at 6 hrs and 25 min, move the Telescope base (not the tripod) to 18 hrs and 25 min-Tighten the Azimuth screw on the base.
  7. Plug in the Power (transformer) on the side of the scope and TURN ON.
  8. Let the GPS find position – this may take about 1 minute.
  9. Once GPS finds the position ENTER 1=True North.
  10. Align two stars, one at a time (check in the finder scope and up/down and sideway arrows to center in the main eyepiece (arrows are slow motion)-at the top of the hand paddle.
  11. Go to Objects Mode/Enter Keys using the up/down and sideway arrows at the bottom of the hand paddle.
  12. Select Object-Press Enter then Go To.
