When people are in need, you’re first in line to help. When there are injustices to cure, you’re barking out—seeking ways to enact change whether it’s running for student government or organizing a food drive.

And Caring Pooches thrive at Butler.

We believe that we have a responsibility to use our talents to improve our world and the lives of others, so you’ll see many ways to get involved through volunteer activities, or more formal service-learning projects. Even though you’ll be helping others, you’ll be surprised how much you get out of it as well. Every Butler student completes an Indianapolis Community Requirement course, where they can experience meaningful engagements with the Indianapolis community such as teaching English to Spanish-speaking second graders, creating art with the elderly, and much more.

Bulldogs Involved Through Service

Butler’s annual day of service, Bulldogs Involved Through Service (BITS), is a chance for the entire Butler community to come together, roll up our sleeves, and take our service to the streets. Past service projects have included volunteering at Gleaners Food Bank, and The Patachou Foundation, among other sites.

If you want to get involved with volunteer opportunities both on and off-campus, Butler’s Volunteer Center is here to serve you in your search for a service match. Volunteer Center staff are trained to locate specific service sites and help you find something that best suits your interests. Opportunities are vast and range from volunteering in schools to assisting nonprofits.

Ambassadors of Change

Ambassadors of Change is an interactive, Pre-Orientation Program, which focuses on service to the community and leadership skill development. Incoming Butler students will be introduced to the campus and local community through meaningful service experiences, dynamic educational opportunities, and entertaining activities throughout the week.
