Daily Crime Log and Fire Log

The crime logs posted here contain incident reports on file with the Butler University Police Department (BUPD). If an incident is not reported to BUPD it will not be listed here. The BUPD patrol jurisdiction consists of the following:

On the East:

  •  Graceland Ave (from 52nd St to Berkley Rd.)

On the South:

  • Berkley Rd (from Graceland Ave) to Sunset Ave. Sunset Ave to 43rd St. 43rd Street to Clarendon Rd. Clarendon Rd to 42nd St. 42nd St. to Michigan Rd.

BUPD maintains a Daily Crime Log and Fire Report that is available to the public upon request. A crime or fire involving on campus student housing must be entered into the log within two business days of when it was reported to University Police or a Campus Security Authority (CSA). The Daily Crime Log can be viewed at the University Police Department, 525 W. Hampton Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana during regular business hours.

Criminal information in the Log will contain BUPD case number, type(s) of crime, date/time of report/occurrence, general location of each crime, Clery geography, and the disposition of the complaint, if known.  The entries will contain all crimes reported in an incident.  The crime classifications will be Indiana state law violations.

Fires occurring in on campus student housing will contain the BUPD case number, nature/cause of fire, date, time, general location of each fire, and disposition.

Per Federal law, students will never be identified by name or address in the log.

According to Federal Clery Law, an institution may withhold any of the required fields of entry, i.e. the nature, date, time, location and/or disposition if any of the following conditions apply:

  1. Prohibited by law;
  2. Jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim;
  3. Jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation or the safety of an individual;
  4. Cause a suspect to flee or evade detection; and
  5. Result in the destruction of evidence.

BUPD has access to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s reporting system and checks it on a routine basis for any crimes occurring on or near the Butler University campus.  Any criminal activity found will be included in the Daily Crime Log and Fire Report.

The BUPD Daily Crime Log and Fire Report  is available at BUPD Office for public inspection during normal business hours; if requested, via email; and by selecting the date below.
