Resident Assistant (RA) Application

For Your Information: Attend an Interest Session

Going to an interest session is the best way to hear all about the RA position, the application process, and to get your questions answered.  You should strongly consider attending one of the following session times (all sessions are identical, you need only attend one):

  • Monday, November 17, 2014: 7:30pm in the ResCo Dining Hall
  • Thursday, December 4, 2014: 7:30pm in the Ross Hall Basement
  • Wednesday, January 14, 2015: 7:30pm in the Schwitzer Hall Lobby

Important Application Basics

  • Applicants must be a returning, full time Butler student at the start of the fall 2015 semester.
  • More details are contained in the Position Description (see Step 1 below).
  • Completed applications (Step 2 below) are to be submitted by NOON on Friday, January 23, 2015.
  • Reference forms are to be completed by your references (Step 3 below) by NOON on Friday , January 23, 2015.
  • Group Process (the first part of the overall interview process) will be 10am-Noon or 1-3pm on Saturday, January 31, 2015.  Block these times off now as you will need to be on campus for one time or the other.
  • Individual Interviews will be scheduled during February 6-7, 2015. Be prepared for a 30-45 minute interview during this timeframe (you will receive an email with more information).
  • Decision letters and position acceptance will be distributed around the end of February.
  • If selected for a position, or as an alternate, you will be scheduled for the RA Class which meets Fridays from 2-4pm beginning after Spring Break.  Except for spring semester classes you may already have scheduled, keep this time free so that you are able to attend the RA class if selected (the class is optional, but strongly encouraged, for alternates).
  • 2015-2016 staff will be expected to attend an overnight retreat after finals, May 7-8, 2015.

Step 1: Position Description

It is important that you understand the type of position you are applying for and what it requires.  The RA position is very challenging and rewarding, but you have to consider if it is right for you.  Click on this link to download the RA Position Description.  You must read and agree to the items outlined in the position description.

Step 2: Application

To apply for the RA position, you must complete the online application.  Click on this link to begin the application.  You will need to log into the application with your Butler user name and password.  If your personal Google account is already active on your computer, you will need to log out and log back in with your Butler email address and password.  You must complete the application by NOON on January 23rd.

Step 3: Reference Form

Having someone be a reference for you is an important part of most application processes.  Make sure you give your references enough time to complete the form.  You will need to provide your references with the appropriate reference form link for them to complete and they must complete it by the NOON, January 23rd deadline.

You need to have three people serve as references for your RA application:

  • Your current RA or ACA if you live in on campus housing OR a Butler professional (a professor, full time staff member, organization advisor, coach, etc.) if you do not currently live on campus;
  • A Butler professional OR a non-Butler professional (such as a current or former supervisor at an off campus job);
  • A Butler Peer (another student who knows you well enough to provide insight into how you would do in the RA position)

It is your responsibility to provide the correct version (link) of the form to each of your three references.  You may also direct them to this page to click on the appropriate link below.  Just like your application, your references will be required to log into Butler Google Drive with their Butler email and password to complete the reference form (unless you happen to have a non-Butler professional reference, which will not require a Butler log on).
