Computer Labs at Butler

Computer Lab Hours for Fall 2009




Butler University’s computing services will be inaccessible starting at 5:15pm Friday, November 20, through Sunday afternoon, November 22, while the University moves its central computer data center to a new home in the Pharmacy and Health Sciences building.  Labs in the residence halls, Atherton Union and Jordan Hall will be available during the outage but ONLY for Internet access to NON-Butler sites (e.g., Facebook) and for Microsoft Office use; all other BU systems, printing, and most application software will not operate until mid-day Sunday when all systems are restored.

During this time you will NOT have access to BUmail, Blackboard, my.butler.edu, www.butler.edu, BUfiles, library systems, campus printing and most other systems.  Butler’s safety systems will continue to function.

Barring any unforeseen technical difficulties, systems will return to service Sunday afternoon, November 22.  Feel free to check earlier as some systems may be operating in advance.

If you have problems with an application after the move (or questions about a particular service not listed), please call the Help Desk at 940-HELP (4357).  The Help Desk will be open Sunday, November 22 from 12pm to 6pm and opens Monday, November 23 at 7:30am.

What you WON’T be able to access:
  • Blackboard will be unavailable, so submit assignments before 5:15 p.m. on November 20.
  • E-mail via BUmail will be unavailable.
  • Documents stored on BUfiles or in your Butler-provided e-mail account will not be accessible. Download any documents you may need onto a flash drive or other device.
  • Course search will be unavailable.
  • Printing on campus printers will be unavailable.

What you WILL be able to access:
  • Internet access from Butler’s residence halls to NON-Butler web sites will operate, so you can check your Facebook page, eBay account, iTunes, Twitter, etc.
  • Computer labs will be accessible for internet access to NON-Butler sites and for Microsoft Office use only.
  • Email sent to Butler addresses will be saved (vs. rejected) and delivered when systems are restored.
  • The phone system will continue to operate during the downtime.  You will be able to make and receive calls. 
  • Card access into various buildings will continue to operate.
  • Butlersports.com and www.cloweshall.org will operate from on or off campus.
