Mass Communication

At the heart of all journalism training is concise, audience-focused writing. However, to write, journalism students must learn how to gather information using techniques such as interviewing, observation and documentary research. Writing and information gathering are essential skills regardless of the mass communication field the student plans to enter upon graduation. Students also learn to communicate visually using photography, graphic design and video production.

Media

To communicate with large segments of the public, information is packaged and disseminated through a variety of media, such as newspapers and newsletters, magazines, brochures and various marketing materials, Web sites, videos, etc. Journalism students learn how to transfer their skills across each medium to effectively communicate with the mass audience.
