Nick Flynn to Speak at Butler Nov. 11

Author Nick Flynn will close the fall 2009 Vivian S. Delbrook Visiting Writers Series at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11 in the Eidson-Duckwall Recital Hall.

Flynn’s memoir, Another Bullshit Night in Suck City (2004), won the PEN/Martha Albrand Award, was shortlisted for France’s Prix Femina, and has been translated into 13 languages. He is also the author of two books of poetry, Some Ether (2000) and Blind Huber (2002), for which he received fellowships from, among other organizations, The Guggenheim Foundation and The Library of Congress.
 
His film credits include “field poet” and artistic collaborator on the film
Darwin’s Nightmare
, which was nominated for an Academy Award for best feature documentary in 2006. One semester a year he teaches at the University of Houston.


This fall's series began
Sept. 9 with Butler English Professor Andy Levy, whose latest book, A Brain Wider Than the Sky, is about his battles with, and the history of, migraines. He was followed by Walter Mosley (Sept. 15), Jorie Graham (Sept. 23), C.J. Hribal (Oct. 6), Katie Ford (Oct. 19) and Michelle Huneven (Oct. 28).
